Massage Therapy Benefits

We are assaulted on a daily basis by stressful influences that we cannot control. These include work, family, relationships, health, finances and environment.  Negative effects of stress include high blood sugar levels, weakened immunity and digestion, disrupted sleep, weight gain, impaired memory and concentration, anxiety, depression, insomnia, high blood pressure and heart disease.  A recent report by Harvard and Stanford researchers determined that work place stress is as harmful as second hand smoke! Ultimately, chronic stress can shorten your life span.

A simple and effective method of reducing cortisol levels is massage therapy. The benefits of physical touch through massage have been medically demonstrated to help relieve many mental and physical complaints. Massage therapy can help reduce stress, tension, anxiety and pain.  We offer myriad massage techniques and we can provide consultation to help you decide which ones will work for you in managing your stress and pain while promoting your well-being. All massage sessions are customized to your specific aroma and physical needs. Please inform us if you are pregnant or have any medical issues that need to be considered prior to a massage.

Swedish Massage

Swedish massage is performed using deep circular movements. The entire body is gently “kneaded” with longer strokes. The results are an intense feeling of relaxation, improved circulation, eased tension and renewed energy.

Aveda Stress-Fix Massage Ritual

Aveda’s Stress-Fix Ritual incorporates elements of various massage techniques, such as Swedish, deep tissue, trigger point, reflexology and controlled breathing. The Stress-Fix Ritual uses Aveda’s line of award-winning Stress-Fix Body Care. The massage ritual uses the Stress-Fix composition oil, containing certified organic lavender, lavandin and clary sage from the French Alps, as well as organic sunflower and jojoba seed oils. Using massage therapy in tandem with aromatherapy helps reduce cortisol levels. In fact, aromatherapy is clinically proven to reduce feelings of stress.  This massage therapy is also an opportunity for the client to be educated on how to recognize and combat the various stress cycles of daily life.

Aveda Elemental Nature Massage

Aveda’s Elemental Nature Massage is based on the five elements, grouped into three parts. These are earth/water, infinity/air and fire. Each group carries its own characteristics, and people fall into one of these groups. Due to the stressful society that we live in, these characteristics are most often out of balance. This massage therapy is customized, and addresses the client’s natural inclinations in order to re-balance those elemental characteristics.

Aveda Chakra Balancing Massage

Aveda’s Chakra massage is another valid and effective therapy that’s used to re-balance and open the seven Chakras, or energies. It incorporates aromatherapy, reflexology and acupressure, as well as gentle touch.  This massage is performed in silence, with a keen focus on connecting with the client and the client’s energies.  Clients leave feeling both calmed and focused.

Sports Massage

This is performed over clothing and doesn’t take as long as the Swedish or deep tissue massages. Its focus is to help the client avoid or treat an injury. Many clients will receive this massage either before or after an event, for preparation and recovery.

Trigger Point Massage

This massage is focused on specific areas or muscle groups. It’s effective for releasing tightened muscle fibers and ligaments after an injury or overuse. Many people with carpal tunnel syndrome gain significant relief with this massage.

Neuromuscular Massage

Neuromuscular therapy (NMT) is a precise method of exploring muscles bands and connective tissue in order to find, evaluate and treat the areas causing trouble.  NMT is an intensely individualized therapy that offers relief for people suffering from pain patterns and soft tissue restrictions. It’s a beneficial therapy for treating military neck, whiplash, misaligned posture, lower back pain, joints and headaches. It’s much more advanced than trigger point massage, as it treats nerves, connective tissue and muscle layers as a system.

Rotator Cuff Release Massage (RCR)

Approximately 90% of the population has incorrect posture. This is a result of the multiple muscles involved in shoulder and arm movement becoming tightened, or there is unaddressed injury, inadequate blood supply, weakness or pinched tendons (impingement). The RCR massage is specifically designed to release the shoulder joint structures. The results are an increased freedom of movement, reduced pain and improved posture.

Hot Stone Massage

A deeply detoxifying and profoundly relaxing massage. By combining massage with hot stones, the circulatory system is both stimulated and relaxed. This circulatory activity promotes the release of toxins from the muscles, assisting the body in self-healing. In addition, tense muscles are also softened and eased by the deeply penetrating heat of the stones. The combined effect prompts a state of enhanced relaxation that washes away stress and sets the stage for re-energizing and rejuvenating the body, mind and spirit.

Deep Tissue Massage

Just as it sounds, this massage penetrates deep through multiple layers of muscles and connective tissue. This therapy is more assertive, but performed with slow movements. It’s beneficial for healing muscle tissue after an injury or overexertion, and it increases flexibility. This is an excellent massage for those who suffer from back pain.

Cold Stone Therapy for Migraine Headaches

Cold Stone Therapy

Approximately 50 million people suffer from migraines every year. For those who suffer from migraines and chronic headaches, this massage can work wonders! Cold stone therapy reduces the extra blood flow to the brain and it greatly reduces migraine symptoms, therefore providing relief fairly quickly. Due to the sudden nature of migraines, we do everything possible to accommodate short-notice appointments.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)

mldcdt01The MLD massage therapy is used in cases of lymphedema, when effective drainage of the lymph nodes is needed. The massage therapist uses manipulation in a specific order and direction that moves and then flushes the lymphatic fluid. Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT)
